Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is a terrific city made up of a network of urban canals and fast-moving bicycles, lots of them. For this post I will mostly let the photos tell the story of our weekend trip to this great city in the Netherlands. They will guide you through the streets of a few well-known sites.

The first gallery takes you from the Museum district to the city center along the Leidsestraat corridor. The streets were unusually quiet for the middle of June. Amsterdam had just reopened from the Coronavirus shutdown about two weeks prior to our visit.

City Center

City Center District

The City Center district is the original section of town. There you will find buildings from the 14th century with the majority constructed in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Canal Neighborhoods

When you venture off the main roads, you discover some amazing neighborhoods. Much of the row housing has stood for hundreds of years.

Museum District

The Museum district, near where we stayed at the hotel, also offers some amazing areas filled with culture, impressive homes, and an assortment of other buildings, not to mention grand, historic museums and acres of parks.

Monnickendam Area

After spending time in the city, we went on a boating trip in a village area outside of Amsterdam.
