Miltenberg: The Pearl of the Main

This time our travels take us into Bavaria for a visit to historic Miltenberg. The backdrop for this spectacular town is a setting between two forested mountain ranges and the River Main. Bavaria is the largest state in Germany. It borders, among four other states, Hesse and is in the southeast corner of the country. Bavaria is known for its impressive scenery and distinctive culture, and Miltenberg fits this description perfectly.

The best part of visiting this city, besides having my travel mate, Colin, with me for this adventure was seeing people in the streets. Especially in the smaller towns in Germany, the lack of visible locals, not to mention tourists, in the street over the past year was evident. As impressive as all the buildings, architecture, and natural surroundings are, having people interspersed in photographs is what brings them to life. Of course, a pleasant day helps but again it was encouraging to see people congregating in public places.

A Walk down Main Street (Haupt Straße): From Gate Tower to Castle

We were able to view most of the sites by walking down Haupt (Main) Street. The only exceptions were a couple of diversions when interesting discoveries drew us out and on to the side streets. That is the beauty of exploring new cities. The main attractions are often not really the main attractions, but it is in finding those little places in the shadows.
